Two Minutes With… Tomas Halliwell

2 Minutes with Tomas Halliwell one of our newest Design Engineering Apprentices…

What do you enjoy most about your role at AFD Systems?

I enjoy the freedom and responsibility my role gives me. It allows me to make a meaningful contribution to my team’s work while continuing to learn and grow throughout my apprenticeship. Every project teaches me something new, and that ongoing growth throughout my apprenticeship is something I genuinely value.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at AFD Systems?

The best advice I’ve received is to trust my judgment. As an apprentice, it can be easy to second guess yourself, but learning to rely on my own decisions has helped me develop confidence and think more independently.

Favourite film and why?

Interstellar. I’m fascinated by the film’s depth and the complexity of the scientific concepts it explores.

Who is your role model? (in manufacturing/engineering/aerospace)

My role model is Robert Goddard. His invention of TVC changes the world of aircrafts in both speed and manoeuvrability. His invention allowed for VTOL and aircraft like the F22, Harrier and SU-37.

Describe the team at AFD Systems in one word?

Knowledgeable.

What’s one fun fact about you that others might not know?

Although I’m only 18, I hold my ACU licence that allows me to race on certain tracks, mostly in Wales. I competed in low CC bike racing last year but this year i will be competing in higher CC races.
