2 Minutes with Jamie Buxton one of our Structures Engineers…
What do you enjoy most about your role at AFD Systems?
I really enjoy being able to learn from engineers who have years of experience and a wealth of practical knowledge. Their guidance helps me develop my skills much faster. At the same time, I like growing alongside other graduates who bring fresh perspectives and new ideas. It creates a balanced environment where I’m constantly learning from both seasoned experts and peers who are exploring things for the first time just like me.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at AFD Systems?
The best advice I’ve received is to be curious and speak up. No one expects you to know everything, and the quickest way to grow is by learning from the people around you.
Favourite film and why?
The Wolf of Wall Street – it’s fast‑paced, chaotic, and genuinely entertaining.
Who is your role model? (in manufacturing/engineering/aerospace)
Kelly Johnson inspires me because of the impact he had on engineering and innovation. His approach to problem solving, simplifying complex ideas, and delivering results under pressure is something I really admire. His work shows how far creativity and determination can take you.
Describe the team at AFD Systems in one word?
Collaborative
What’s one fun fact about you that others might not know?
I’d say I’m a pretty decent chef, and I love experimenting with new recipes in my spare time. Cooking lets me be creative and try out different flavours and cuisines, and it’s something I find both relaxing and rewarding.
