Two Minutes With… Hayley Berry

2 Minutes with Hayley Berry our Quality Manager / Security Controller…

What do you enjoy most about your role at AFD Systems?

I think with any workplace, the people really make the place, and we have some great people here at AFD. Although my role involves a fair amount of solo work, I work with most people at some point each week. Having a team of lovely people around me helps make this a great place to be.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at AFD Systems?

“Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good”. It’s easy to focus on perfection, whereas sometimes getting jobs completed to a good standard and moving on to the next task is essential for effectively managing your workload. You can always return to tasks and documents at a later date and make small changes, supporting a mindset of continuous improvement.

Favourite film and why?

My favourite film at the moment is K-Pop Demon Hunters. There are some great catchy songs but also it promotes a message of accepting your imperfections and being true to yourself.

Who is your role model? (in manufacturing/engineering/aerospace)

In aerospace and engineering, I really admire Christina Koch. Most recently, she became the first woman to fly around the Moon on Artemis II, which I watched launch live last month. Her previous achievements include holding the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman, spending 328 consecutive days aboard the International Space Station, and taking part in the first all-female spacewalks in 2019.

Describe the team at AFD Systems in one word?

It’s hard to pick one word but I’d have to go with interesting. I previously came from the medical industry, and although both are highly regulated industries, I have really enjoyed learning about the aerospace industry.

What’s one fun fact about you that others might not know?

While I don’t have much time for hobbies these days, my past hobbies include cheerleading, morris dancing, and target shooting. I’ve also recently learned to solve a Rubik’s Cube, which isn’t quite a hobby but still something I’m proud of.
