Two Minutes With… Marc Lopez Boix

Our Newest Senior Design Engineer…

What do you enjoy most about your role at AFD Systems?

The variety of work day to day keeps it fresh and engaging. Not only from a design perspective but for example, a day could switch between visiting customers/suppliers to supporting management or helping manufacture.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at AFD Systems?

“Let the tool do the work” when cutting some tubes on my first week, in order to get perfectly perpendicular cuts. As above, that’s not my role but I had to support manufacturing when the apprentice was out of office due to an emergency.

Favourite film and why?

As a child, I was really drawn to The NeverEnding Story for its imagination, message and sense of adventure. More recently, Oppenheimer has stayed with me because of how powerfully it shows the weight of decisions made with incomplete awareness.

Who is your role model? (in manufacturing/engineering/aerospace)

Leonardo da Vinci, because he combined creativity with practical engineering thinking. I admire the way he studied mechanisms, structures and flight not just as ideas, but as problems to understand, test and improve. That balance of imagination, observation and technical curiosity is something I think still applies strongly in modern engineering.

Describe the team at AFD Systems in one word?

Multiskilled

What’s one fun fact about you that others might not know?

I was born in Barcelona, Spain, and therefore I am also multilingual. Everyone here knows this but most have said they wouldn’t have known without me telling them.
