Two Minutes With… Paul Burrow

2 Minutes with Paul Burrow our Senior Design Engineer

What do you enjoy most about your role at AFD Systems?

One of the things I value most is the variety in my work. Having a wide range of tasks and responsibilities keeps each day interesting.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received at AFD Systems?

Don’t put Classic FM on the office radio, it’s not very popular with the younger apprentices, and my suggestion didn’t go down too well!

Favourite film and why?

Monsters Inc (I used to watch this with my first Grandchild when she had sleepovers. It was her favourite and she still remembers it 26 years on).

Who is your role model? (in manufacturing/engineering/aerospace)

Peter Fish, who was both my boss and a close friend during my time at BNFL. He encouraged me to be the best I could be he showed me that admitting mistakes isn’t a weakness, provided you learn from them and move forward stronger.

Describe the team at AFD Systems in one word?

Eclectic. The team is made up of people with a wide range of skills, backgrounds, personalities, and experiences, which creates a dynamic and interesting environment where different perspectives are valued.

What’s one fun fact about you that others might not know?

I was once a qualified County Archery Coach. Coaching archery taught me patience, focus, and how to support others in developing confidence and precision skills that have stayed with me beyond the sport.
